Online Upper Gi / Small Bowel Capsule Reading Course>
Capsule type: PillCam SB
Reading software: PillCam Web Software v9.0
Who is this course designed for?
You may be a doctor or a specialist nurse wanting to become a certified capsule reader.
You can do it in just 50 hours of training time.
Criteria for this course:
You should have a minimum of three years’ experience in a specialist role within gastroenterology.
Ideally, you will have one year’s experience of endoscopy and have some familiarity with the Rapid Reader graphical user interface, or access to a manufacturer’s representative who can guide you through the basics.
You may be in practice, but have not yet achieved the widely recognised competence threshold of reading at least 20 fully supervised small bowel capsule cases. See American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Training Committee 2011-2012. Rajan EA, et al. Small bowel endoscopy core curriculum. Gastrointest Endosc. 2013; 77(1): 1-6.
What will you learn:
You will develop skill and confidence in reading full capsule cases with the PillCam Web Software v9.0 simulator. (Reading skills are transferable across other capsule reading systems.)
What you will get out of it:
Successful completion will lead to the award of the IMIGe Certificate of Completion – Small Bowel.
Approved by the Federation of the Royal College of Physicians UK for 30 external (category 1) CPD credits.
How you will be taught:
A flexible web-based, self-directed format with regular expert guidance and review.
Preparation – Access our Image Recognition App to develop image recognition skills. Preview normal and abnormal pathology by viewing realtime clips. Available from registration and for the duration of the course. (Click here for Contents!)
Reading and Reporting – Practise on full cases, available via the PillCam Simulator. Stages are graded “Easy” through “Moderate” to “Difficult”. You need to practise on at least 15 full cases before attempting the 5 Summative Assessment cases.
Group mentoring – Be guided by the IMIGe Team, which has over 10 years’ experience of video capsule, has reported over 4,000 cases and is widely recognised as one of the leading units in Europe.
PROCESS:
On successful booking and payment you will receive access to the Image Recognition App.
On the course commencement date, you will be emailed your login details for the learning platform and the PillCam Web Software v9.0 simulator.
Join our Welcome Webinar and subsequent evening webinars to be guided through the practice cases in 3 Stages – Easy, Moderate and Difficult – all webinars are recorded and shared. Live attendance is encouraged, though not mandatory.
Review the cases in your own time and submit your reports via the learning platform. View model answers and summary video clips. Receive expert feedback at the end of each Stage.
After suitable practice and regular mentoring you will be in a position to attempt 5 cases as a final (summative) assessment. A successful candidate will have reported at least 90% of clinically significant findings.
The reading of 20 full cases and the successful identification of at least 90% of clinically significant findings fulfils the requirement for a certificate of completion in line with the recommendations of ASGE Training Committee 2011-2012. Online Colon Capsule Reading Course>
Capsule type: PillCam Colon
Reading software: PillCam Web Software v9.0
Who is this course designed for?
You may be a doctor or a specialist nurse with experience of small bowel (SB) capsule reading, but wanting to become a certified colon capsule reader.
If you have first-hand experience of endoscopy or previous SB capsule reading experience, you will need to find 50 hours of training time to complete this course.
UPDATE: The COVID-19 crisis has had a considerable impact on endoscopy waiting times. Colon capsule is seen as one way out of the crisis, especially for patients waiting for colon cancer screening or on surveillance lists. A colon capsule passes through the oesophagus, stomach and small bowel, therefore readers must be aware of the pathology that they could witness as the capsule proceeds to the colon.
Candidates for the Colon Capsule Reading Course should have experience of SB capsule reading or consider first completing the SB Capsule Reading Course.
What will you learn:
You will develop skill and confidence in reading full capsule cases with the PillCam Web Software v9.0 simulator. (Reading skills are transferable across other capsule reading systems.)
What you will get out of it:
Successful completion will lead to the award of the IMIGe Certificate of Completion – Colon.
